Macy's POV

Tennis is where our love story began. I was searching for a team when a now mutual friend, Cheryl, connected me with Julie. She was a captain of a 5.0 league, but wasn't so sure on letting me in. First, I had to try out! This girl actually made me try out. Little did she know, she would be putting her future fiancée through a rigorous test... just kidding. It was easy. I passed with flying colors. Over a year passes, and Julie starts wondering if I might possibly have feelings for her. In my head, I just want to be her very best friend and really her only best friend. After a night of team revelry, she bravely confronted me with her feelings! And we pretty much were obsessed with each other from then onward. Now, I am lucky enough to marry the person who I was destined to find in this life and every one thereafter.

Julie's POV

When Cheryl reached out to me about a new player that had moved to Dallas, I was guarded. My team has high expectations for who I add (I learned that lesson the hard way). I agreed to meet and evaluate this new player, and not only was she a solid player, she was normal! That was enough to get on every one of my teams.

About 8 months later I was told by ESD's athletic director that I had to hire an assistant coach. I was NOT happy about it. Who had a flexible enough schedule and would jive with the fun culture I had created on my team? I needed someone young, good at tennis, and easy going. My only option was Macy. Over the course of the season, we had the chance to share some really special moments with the players, but also got to know each other better. One moment that always stands out in hindsight was the one and only time in 7 seasons (and we play them at least 2x per season) that our team pulled out a win against our rival, Hockaday. It was a nail biter, and when our girls pulled out the victory, Macy was doing pike-jumps up and down, while I stood there on the verge of tears. Seeing her care so much about something so important to me meant a lot.

The more I got to know her, the more I hoped that one day I might find a lesbian version. Truly, she was like everything I would want in a partner. Through that spring, we coached together, played doubles on our Thursday and Saturday teams together, did our own workouts at the school gym, and just really clicked.

I'll be honest though. At a certain point, it got confusing! I know she hates mornings, but she always said yes to my 8 am workouts. She never seemed to want a conversation to end, and she texted me often. I started to wonder, is something more going on here?

Those who know me well know that I'm not usually the most forward, but it got to a point where all I could do was think about whether or not she was interested in me as more than a friend. My brain said no, but my heart say yes. Eventually, after "a bit" of liquid courage, I told her that it felt like she liked me and asked her point blank if I was going crazy. She told me I wasn't.

And now, without having to look at all, I have found my dream human being in the form of my best friend and favorite doubles partner and will soon get to call her my wife.
